Wilton Library is pleased to present "Fiber Artists of Handweavers' Guild of Connecticut" in its June art exhibition, opening on Friday, June 6 with a reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Handweavers' Guild of Connecticut, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023, was started in 1948 by a small group of women and has grown to a membership of 270. The Guild invites handweavers, spinners, and other fiber artists from all levels of experience to exchange ideas and share knowledge, to encourage and educate, and to challenge their abilities in fiber art techniques. Anyone who is interested is invited to attend a Guild meeting and consider becoming a member. The Guild meets five times a year at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury on the third Saturday of the month, bimonthly from September to May.
Guild members reside all across the state of Connecticut, as well as in New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. More than 30 artists from the group will be exhibiting their works in an array of styles and fiber content.
The opening reception on Friday, June 6 is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs through Saturday, July 5. A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Wilton Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Sundays starting on June 15, on Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth, and on Friday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
