Sponsored by Dominos Sugar, Inc – The Wilton Warriors 11U Cal Ripken team capped off an exciting weekend of baseball with a huge come-from-behind 9-8 victory over the Norwalk District All Star team. Behind by 7 runs in the first inning, the Warriors would not give up. They countered with four runs of their own on a flurry of hits and walks by Matt Graham (1 double, 2 run, 1 rbi), Michael Angerame (2 hits, 1 run, 1 rbi), Reilly Bingaman (2 runs, 4 stolen bases), Connor Wyman (1 double, 1 run, 1 rbi), and Zach Pozzi (1 hit, 2 run, 2 rbi). Alex Breitenbach got the game-winning RBI in the 5th, and Wyman got the save to secure the win. The weekend also included some stellar fielding and pitching. In Friday’s game, Brendan Connor (1 hit) and Nicky Cullinan (1 hit) were superb on the mound, each striking out two batters. J.R. Stauff and August Theoharides showed great patience drawing walks and were on the bases often. Throughout the weekend, Anthony Catino and Ben Olson were defensive wizards, making several great plays. Ben also pitched 2 flawless innings in Sunday’s victory. Chris Lancaster and Kace Stewart also had brilliant weekends, pitching, fielding and batting. Zach Pozzi got the game ball Sunday, not only for his great day of hitting, but he also stole 4 bases and pitched two critical scoreless innings, allowing the Warriors to eventually take the lead over Norwalk. Unofficial mascot, Patch Angerame, was pressed into service Saturday afternoon and struck out Reilly swinging at three straight pitches. It was a great weekend for the Warriors!
