Renowned Wilton artist David Dunlop will show new work at Ridgefield's Watershed Gallery, beginning this weekend. The exhibit, "Nature Dreams in Color," launches with an opening reception at 7:00pm, on Friday, June 14, 2013.
"David is definitely the anchor of this new exhibit," says Jennifer Mathy, Watershed Gallery's director. "We're incredibly lucky to have an artist of his caliber living right next door."
The gallery is showing four artists in the new show, each using unique color palettes and media to depict the natural environment. Oil painter Bang Si Truc has shipped in large waterscapes that depict the vibrant beauty of Viet Nam, using reds and oranges in his sunset scenes.
New Zealand painter Helene Carpenter, who lived for 20 years in Singapore, also explores the colors and flowers of Asia in her work. Carpenter layers gold leaf and mixes varnish with acrylics to create artwork that shifts with changing light and the viewer's perspective.
Photographer Alison Shaw has made a career of capturing the expansive beauty of Martha's Vineyard, often featuring acute sharpness and intensely saturated color in her work. By panning as she shoots, Shaw minimizes the details of the image that are extraneous and, in doing so, ends up with a photograph that evokes the subject's sensual nature.
Watershed Gallery, which is located at 23 Governor Street in Ridgefield, represents emerging and mid-career artists in a range of media, from painting, printmaking and works on paper, to photography and sculpture. The gallery focuses on local and global artists, producing abstract and loosely representational art. Shows highlight art and artists who bring a fresh perspective and create an emotional connection for the viewer.
The public is welcome to attend the opening reception on Friday. For more information on the "Nature Dreams in Color" exhibit, please visit www.watershedgallery.com or call 203.438.4387.
