Whole Foods Market Donates to Outreach Programs at The Ridgefield Playhouse
Whole Foods Markets partnered with The Ridgefield Playhouse in order to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children and adults to attend live theatrical performances for free. Six Whole Foods Market locations in Southwestern Connecticut donated 5% of their net sales from June 20th—a combined total of $26,599.40—to outreach programs at The Ridgefield Playhouse. As part of Whole Foods Market’s mission to serve and support their local communities, stores located in Danbury, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Milford, and Westport participated in this “5% Day” or community giving day.
“At Whole Foods Market, each of our stores is given the flexibility to serve the needs of their own respective communities, because that makes community giving more meaningful and fun,” said Metro Marketing Team Leader Connie Leonard. “That is why we are so excited that our Southwestern Connecticut locations joined together this 5% Day to successfully support such a worthy local cause.”
The Ridgefield Playhouse, a nonprofit theater for movies and the performing arts, strives to bring high quality, culturally enriching performances to all members of the community and beyond. The donation from Whole Foods Market will help support The Playhouse’s “Arts in Education” and “Arts for Everyone” initiatives, which provide opportunities for children and adults from low income areas, as well as Title 1 Schools, to experience live theater.
The Playhouse held 29 “Arts in Education” performances during its 2016-2017 season and opened its doors to more than 13,000 students from 7 counties in Connecticut and New York. Students from schools in the surrounding area, many of which are Title 1, (schools with high percentages of children from low-income families), received reduced or free tickets and bus transportation so that their students could have access to the significant educational benefits of arts exposure. The Playhouse also gives free tickets to a variety of nonprofits that assist children and adults dealing with crises, homelessness, or serious illness—as well as people with special needs, or mental, physical, or developmental disabilities.
Whole Foods Market will present their check at the annual “Shakespeare on the Green” event at The Playhouse on Saturday, August 12th at 2pm. “Love’s Labour’s Lost” will be performed live by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. This event is free and open to the public, but you must call The Playhouse at (203) 438-5795 to make a reservation. The Ridgefield Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge Avenue, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
