Saturday, Nov. 2 Flu Shot Clinic at Wilton Library, 10 – 11:30 a.m. Flu shots are available to anyone age four years and older. Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.   No appointment needed, first-come, first-served, no waiting. Please wear sleeves that roll up easily. Cost of the flu vaccine is $50 payable by cash or check or it can be billed directly to Aetna, Anthem, Connecticare, Harvard Pilgrim, Multi Plan, Wellcare or Medicare Part B. Bring your insurance card with you. High Dose vaccine is available to persons age 65 or older who would like it instead of the regular dose vaccine. Saturday, Nov. 2 Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just for Kids: America and Friends – Strings, 3 – 4 p.m. The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining. Members of the orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour-long presentations. Throughout the season, presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All programs end with attendees having a chance to hold and try to play a beginning level instrument in the 'Petting Zoo'. Ages 4 and up with caregivers. Wednesday, Nov. 6 The Scoop on Psych Testing 2: What Do All Those Numbers Really Mean?, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Licensed clinical psychologist Caley Schwartz, PhD follows up her presentation last year with an explanation of common areas examined in psychological and psycho-educational testing, including IQ, achievement, memory, executive functioning, social communication, and development. Dr. Schwartz earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Miami and completed a two-year Fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center, where she received generalist and autism-specific training. Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14 & 21 Demeter and Persephone: The Message and Meaning of a Myth From Ancient Greece to Modern America, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. This special literature seminar series continues with two guest lecturers—Judson Scruton and Gerald Weiss. This teaching tag-team will combine their talents to cover an ancient Homeric hymn juxtaposed against several more modern poets.   Judson Scruton M.A (The Johns Hopkins University, The Writing Seminars, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. Monday, Nov. 11 How to Pay for College, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. In this one-hour workshop, you'll learn about which colleges offer the best financial aid packages, how to avoid mistakes on the FAFSA and CSS profile, how students can receive more free money and less loans, why private universities can cost less than a state school, and how families of all income levels may be eligible for financial aid.
