Brubeck for Kids: A Hands-on Jazz Exploration Workshop with Cheryll Ryder on Saturday, March 14 from 11:00 – 12:30 at the Wilton Historical Society

In this engaging intro to jazz and the legacy of Wilton’s own jazz man, Dave Brubeck, the Wilton Historical Society will present “Brubeck for Kids: A Hands-on Jazz Exploration Workshop” on Saturday, March 14 from 1:00 – 12:30. Brubeck’s innovative combinations of rhythms and meters, as evidenced on his 1959 “Take Five” album ( the greatest selling jazz record of all time) will be the inspiration for this workshop. Cheryll Ryder, a music teacher at Cider Mill School in Wilton, will lead the program, assisted by museum educator Katherine Karlick Children will explore three music stations - working with keyboards and headphones to try their hand at adding a musical score to visual images, as if they are writing a score for a movie; working with xylophones; and investigating new sounds with rhythm instruments. A guided tour of the Remembering Dave: A Brubeck Family Album exhibition is included.
