FCBuzz Weekend: Wreath Making, Marshall Tucker, Winter Fun Fest, and More!

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members. 

This weekend, the air will be filled with holiday cheer, festive fun and so much more.

On Friday, starting at 9:30 am, Greenwich comes alive and so will you with the Greenwich Historical Society Holiday Festival of Fun for the Entire Family. There will be a hands-on wreath making class in the Historic Barn; the Museum Store’s Festival of Tabletop Trees with shopping, sipping & bidding opportunities all day; and an evening of crafts, gingerbread decorating, music and food. Tour the beautifully illuminated campus, enjoy visits from Santa and a renowned storyteller, Jonathan Kruk. Warm up with mulled cider, wine, beer, hot cocoa and treats for the whole family. 

At FTC’s Stage One in Fairfield on Friday at 8:00 pm, Morgan James, ("the most promising young vocalist to come along so far this century," Wall Street Journal), presents her Very Magnetic Christmas Tour featuring songs from her fourth studio album. Following her acclaimed 2020 release of “Memphis Magnetic”, she returned to the Memphis Magnetic Recording studio for what promises to be a classic holiday album.

Also on Friday at 8:00 pm, calling all Southern rock fans! The Ridgefield Playhouse welcomes The Marshall Tucker Band, a tried-and-true Southern institution for more than five decades. Credited as pioneers of the Southern Rock genre, the band’s mighty music catalog consists of more than 20 studio albums, a score of live releases, and hits like “Heard It in a Love Song,” “Can’t You See,” “Fire on the Mountain” and more! The band, led by founding member and lead vocalist Doug Gray, has racked up multi-platinum album sales many times over. 

Bring the whole family to Westport Country Playhouse on Saturday at 11:00 am for a day of games, story readings, and holiday cheer. Winter Fun Fest will get you fueled up on festive snacks (and candy), music, a scavenger hunt, winter crafts and more. This is a Youth Council-led event, and all proceeds go directly to Homes with Hope, dedicated to ending homelessness in Fairfield County.   

If you’re looking to get your holiday shopping done, then join the artists and guest artists of Bridgeport’s brand new Metro Art Studios on Saturday at noon for The Holiday Market where you will find gifts for everyone on your list - affordable art, jewelry, stationery, home decor, and more. Explore the artist studios of this impressive 3-story renovated corset factory and get all of your shopping done. Masks required.

Find a very special gift or simply view a beautiful exhibit by Ridgefield artist, Trish Wend on Saturday 2:00 - 4:00 pm at The Ridgefield Library. The opening reception for From Farm to Table: Classic Landscape, Still Life, and Floral Paintings will feature a cross-section of works available in all price ranges for purchase. Some favorite Ridgefield landmarks are included. 

On Saturday at 7:30 pm at Ridgefield High School’s Anne S. Richardson Auditorium, Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra continues its season with "Fate Now Conquers", an intriguing new piece by composer Carlos Simon, together with Bartok’s First Violin Concerto, with Simone Porter as soloist, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.

Then on Sunday, continue to celebrate the joyous return of live music and enjoy a festive music celebration with The Fairfield County Children's Choir (FCCC) at The Klein Memorial Auditorium at 12:15pm. Holidays in Harmony shines a spotlight on talented children from 19 neighboring towns, including seasonal favorites from a wide variety of composers. 

Finally, enjoy a timeless holiday favorite as The Norwalk Symphony presents Amahl and the Night Visitors  at The Norwalk Concert Hall on Sunday at 1pm and 5pm. This beautiful chamber opera includes a cast featuring the local talent of boy soprano Henry Brauweiler as Amahl, and Board Member and MET Chorus singer Mary Petro Noonan as the Mother, The Kings are played by Angel Ryland, Alex Patrie and Markel Reed together with dancers from the New England Academy of Dance and the Norwalk Symphony Chorus.
