Wilton Library Hosts Special Performance by Chinese Acrobat Li Liu Sponsored by Mitch Ancona

Wilton Library invites families to celebrate Take Your Child to Library Day and the Lunar New Year with Chinese acrobat Li Liu, who takes center stage in the Brubeck Room for a special performance on Saturday, February 5 at 11 a.m.

Children will be delighted by the amazing acrobatics of Li Liu, who will blend artistic cycling, hand balancing, plate spinning, and more spectacular tricks and stunts for a fun-filled program. She also tells stories and incorporates Chinese folklore into her solo act.

This program is generously sponsored by Mitch Ancona of Ancona’s Wines & Liquors in Wilton and Ridgefield, who hosted the Annual Branchville Charity Lawn Bocce Tournament in October 2021. Teams representing local non-profit organizations have competed for prize money in this event every fall since 2015 (with the exception of 2020). The Wilton Library team, which is organized by Michael Crystal and includes Jon Waxberg, Bob Correa, and Peter Billias, tied for third place. Afterward, team member Michael Crystal presented the donation of prize money to Wilton Library’s Executive Director Elaine Tai-Lauria.

“We are thankful for Mitch Ancona’s generosity in hosting this fun tournament every year that highlights charity, family, and community, and we always appreciate the efforts of our dedicated Bocce team. In the spirit of Mitch’s tournament, we decided to use the funds for this special and unique performance by Li Liu that families in our community can enjoy on Take Your Child to the Library Day,” said Tai-Lauria.

Li Liu was born in Shenyang in the northeast of China. At age 6, she began her acrobatic training and the following year attended the Chinese National Circus School in Beijing. After she won a gold medal at the prestigious Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris, France, Liu traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa performing with the Liaoning Acrobatic Arts Troupe. She came to the United States in 2000 with Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus and toured all over the country. Now a freelance performer, Liu is a regular on the NBA and WNBA half-time circuits and a featured performer on Princess Cruise Lines. In 2010, she appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

Registration is required for this event. Space is limited, so all participants on the waitlist will be sent a Zoom link by the morning of the program to watch it online. While it is the hope to offer this program in person, should circumstances require it the program will switch entirely to Zoom and all registrants will receive an email with the link the day before the program.
