Wilton Library Celebrates a Banner Year!

Wilton Library is celebrating its 125th anniversary in a big way and it is being marked with colorful banners on lampposts throughout Wilton Center. Thanks to the support of Wilton First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice, and Town staff, and with an anonymous donor, the community becomes part of the celebration.

“Wilton Library has been stitched into the fabric of this community for 125 years, and we felt this was a fun and visible way to honor that achievement,” Lynne said about the banners going up. “The Town of Wilton is proud of its public/private partnership with the library and I wanted to help in recognizing this wonderful milestone.”

Elaine Tai-Lauria said, “We are thankful for Lynne’s and her staff’s support in acknowledging our important anniversary. We, the staff and trustees of the library, feel a great deal of responsibility in providing the best services, programs and technology to this very supportive community. We are delighted that everyone will be reminded of how long this jewel of an institution has been serving its residents. Our tagline, ‘Here’s to our next chapter!’ indicates that we are always planning our future and invite the community to join along with us.”

Wilton Library will continue to celebrate with its 125th Anniversary Gala on March 28, a community social on May 9, its annual meeting on June 17, and with many other opportunities sprinkled in.

Wilton Library Association was founded by a forward-thinking group in May, 1895. These stalwart members of the community gathered 150 books in someone’s home. This inception has led to the beautiful, modernist building in the center of Wilton that sees more than 250,000 visitors per year and has a collection of more than 500,000 items.

Wilton Library is a nonprofit association and the cultural and intellectual heart of the community in the center of Wilton. The library’s mission is to inform, connect, enrich and inspire the community, which it strives to do every day through conversations, thought-provoking programs, up-to-date technology and customer-centric services.   Visit www.wiltonlibrary.org or call 203-762-6334 for more information. Wilton Library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road in the heart of Wilton Center.
