Ancona's Life in a Bottle: Sip in Spring

In this week's episode of Life in a Bottle, Ancona's Wine Director Codey Foster sips and chats about 2019 Railsback Feres Vermentinu Soeur Cuvee Speciale.

Foster says, "This, my friends, is springtime in a bottle."

He explains, "After being harvested by hand, the wine is fermented in tanks and laid to rest in totally neutral French Oak barrels for approximately 6 months time. Filtration is minimal.  What you get is an utterly unique capture of place and time through the lens of Vermentinu--and how often do you see that?  This is the second vintage ever made and it's glorious."

About 450 cases were made—15 of which were magnums.

Foster says, "This is likely the sharpest pricing in the country."

Regular: $26.99

Sale: $23.99

Codey's notes:

The 2019 Vermentinu from the Railsback bros might their best effort yet--this is fresh, layered, and pure: offering up an enticing spectrum of aromas including fresh cream, lemon skin, white peach, key lime, fresh herbs, linen, sea spray, and crushed seashells. On the palate, this is just ever so unctuous and satisfying, carrying with it just a little extra extract and weight which only makes it more refreshing. The finish is long and layered and nostalgic of its Corsican brethren. This is new California. 12.7%

Pair it up: Besides fish and shellfish which are obligatory--this is a brilliant accompaniment for the bitter green veggies that can sometimes to tricky to partner with wine: artichokes, asparagus, artichokes, etc...I also crave it with sardines and fresh butter spread on a freshly baked baguette.
