WPS Welcome Back: 2021-22

On behalf of our board of education and entire staff, I write today to officially welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. I offer a warm welcome back to our returning families and a warm welcome to our many new families. I also offer an especially warm welcome back to the families of the WHS class of 2022.  It is our goal to have school feel as “normal” as possible, but we also recognize that the COVID-19 virus is still very much present in our community. With the understanding that the health and safety of our students and staff members is our first priority, we are re-sharing information that was originally published at the beginning of August to enable parents and guardians to better understand what strategies and procedures will be in place when students return.

One question that has been raised repeatedly in recent days is in reference to mask-wearing. Currently, we are operating under binding guidance issued by the Commissioner of Public Health and the Commissioner of Education, as authorized by the Governor through Executive Order 13A, which requires that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks while inside a school building. This guidance is in force through September 30, 2021. We expect the guidance to be updated but do not have a timeline for when new guidance will be published.

The Wilton community should be very proud of its collective efforts to keep all residents safe. Our vaccination rates are some of the highest in the state and the current local COVID-19 transmission data reflects our shared commitment to safety. As we begin this school year, we will continue to rely on the strong partnership we’ve developed in service to this effort.
