Wilton High School Recognized as Special Olympics Unified Champion School

A Salute to Excellence: Celebrating the Unified Sports Team - Wilton Unified

At the Wilton Public Schools October 20th Wilton Public Schools Board of Education meeting, the BOE celebrated the Unified Sports team, Wilton Unified, with a Salute to Excellence and announced that Wilton High School has once again been recognized as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School.

This distinction is awarded to Unified Sports for demonstrating an inclusive school climate, a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff.  Unified Champion Schools that receive national banner recognition have met ten (10) national standards of excellence.  Standards assess Special Olympic Unified Sports programs, inclusive youth leadership practices, and whole school engagement.

A special banner, provided by CIAC, was presented to the high school staff involved including Paul Mengold, Elias Zurita, Emily Fodor, and Patti Berkowitz.

Members of our Unified Wilton team were on hand to receive the honor including students Emma Burton, John Somma, and Alan Zhao.  Our Unified Wilton mentors were also present and included:  Aj and Tyler Goncalves and Cael Dexter.
