The Darien Police Department and the Comstock Community Center in Wilton will host a free AAA Driver Improvement Program (DIP) class for experienced Fairfield County motorists who want to refresh themselves on the basics of defensive driving and learn about current driving practices.
Participants who take the class also can lower their auto insurance costs while improving their driving skills.
The classes will take place Sunday, February 5 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Darien Police Department, 25 Hecker Avenue Darien; and on Sunday, February 19 at the Comstock Community Center, 180 School Road, Wilton, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Darien Officer T. Court Isaac will instruct the Darien class; while Wilton Sgt. Dave Hartman will lead the Community Center class. Both are certified AAA Driving Improvement Program instructors. Classes are free to AAA members and non-members.
“Our program is aimed at drivers with several years of experience, who wish to improve or refresh their driving skills,” explains Fran Mayko, AAA’s public affairs specialist and DIP coordinator. “But there’s an even greater benefit to taking class if you’re over 60: you qualify for a discount of up to 5% on your auto insurance per Connecticut state law.”
You must register online at www.aaa.com/driverimprovement and link to the Connecticut classes or call 203-937-2595, ext. 8363.
