Wilton Interfaith Action Committee Commends Police Officers

The Wilton Police Department received a letter from the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (Wi-ACT) commending Sgt. Anna Rita Tornello and Commissioner Don Sauvigne for their support of Wi-ACT's missions.

Recently Wi-ACT was honored by the Rise Against Hunger, Inc., a non-profit organization, for reaching the milestone of one million meals packaged to feed those in need. As a symbol of the accomplishment, Wi-ACT was presented with a large inscribed gong. According to the letter, "Sgt. Tornello has had a major role in advancing this work with her performances at Wi-ACT meal-packaging Benefit Concerts from their inception, using her remarkable operatic talents. The idea for using her vocal talents to advance charitable work in Wilton was something she herself, along with a pianist colleague of hers, advanced in the local press, and Wi-ACT gladly accepted their offer."

Similarly, the letter praised Commissioner Sauvigne stating, "with respect to Wi-ACT’s refugee resettlement work, Commissioner Sauvigne has had a very important role from the outset in helping our family with a warm welcome on their first day in Wilton and regular driving of the five children to a variety of events while their widowed mother has been at work in the almost three years since then."

To show their appreciation Wi-ACT representative Steve Hudspeth was photographed with Sgt. Tornello and Commissioner Sauvigne with the gong.
