NBC's Sunday Night Football Welcomes Newtown Nighthawks to Show

NBC spotlights Newtown High School's Class LL victory during Sunday Night Football halftime program, welcomes team, coaches and cheerleaders

"Our Sunday Spotlight - Saturday's Class LL State Championship game, Darien and Newtown tied at seven, three seconds left....," said show co-host, Mike Tirico. "This is Newtown's first state title since 1992, the game seven years to the day of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. While they were elementary age at that time, they are state champs. We welcome all of the Newtown football team, the Nighthawks," continued Tirico.

The Newtown high school football team, together with coaches and cheerleaders, joined Mike Tirico, Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison on the set of NBC's Sunday Night Football.  Newtown head coach Bobby Pattison was asked about the nailbiting, last three seconds of the game when Newtown and Darien were tied at 7. "It's a foggy night and you call timeout, what did you do?" asked Tirico. "We changed the play," said Pattison, who went on to explain the strategy that would make the team champions.
