Wilton Residents Take Peaceful Stance Against Racism

Yesterday, Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30 pm, Wilton residents gathered on the grounds of Our Lady of Fatima Church in the name of peace, and for an end to racism.

What Clergy initially advertised as a Walk for Peace and an End to Racism, was changed at the last minute, to exclude the walking portion of the event.

The event was attended by a number of Wilton High School and Wilton college-age students and high school and college-age students from surrounding communities.  As the event came to a close, many of the students chose to sit outside the entrance to Police Headquarters and Town Hall. "Chief Lynch and the Wilton Police officers present were joined by Middlebrook School music teacher Michael Gordon.  Wilton should be proud of how Chief Lynch and the department handled the matter and how Chief Lynch and Michael Gordon collaborated to create a teachable moment for the students," said Wilton First Selectwoman, Lynne Vanderslice.

GOODMorningWilton captured the event, which included prayer and comments, via Facebook Live Stream.

Attendee Jennifer Angerame remarked that the gathering was moving, peaceful, poignant as well as heartbreaking.
