Wilton Woman's Club Short Story Contest Winner Announced

Wilton High School 9th Grader Gayathri Kaimal is Winner of Woman's Club Short Story Contest

You may remember Wilton had planned six months of activities to mark the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing and protecting the women's right to vote.  Many of those events have been canceled, but the Wilton Woman’s Club held their Short Story Contest for Girls

Girls who are Wilton residents in grades 9-12 were encouraged to submit a fictional short story related to American women gaining the right to vote. The Wilton Woman’s Club announced the winner.  She is Gayathri Kaimal, a ninth grader at Wilton High School. Congratulations Gayathri.  Her essay can be read on the Wilton Woman’s Club website.

Peaceful March and Gathering

Last night, members of the Wilton Clergy held an event for Peace and an End to Racism at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Police Chief John Lynch, Rev. Dr. Lindsay Curtis, a Wilton resident and Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk and I were invited to join the clergy members and offer remarks.  It was a peaceful and thoughtful event, very much reflective of the Wilton community and the moment.

The event was attended by a number of Wilton High School and Wilton college-age students and high school and college age students from surrounding communities.  Later, many of the students chose to sit outside the entrance to Police Headquarters and Town Hall.  Chief Lynch and the Wilton Police officers present were joined by Middlebrook School music teacher Michael Gordon.  Wilton should be proud of how Chief Lynch and the department handled the matter and how Chief Lynch and Michael Gordon collaborated to create a teachable moment for the students.
