Coronavirus Update: Wrong Direction, Lock Your Vehicle, Dial-A-Ride Returns, Contact Tracing Update and Detailed Case Data

The following are key takeaways from the CT DPH report as of 8:30 p.m. July 7th:
  • Wilton, 1 new case reported.
  • Statewide, hospitalized Coronavirus patients increased for the second day in a row.  Statewide today, a  5-patient net increase was reported for a 2-day increase of 19 net patients. For Fairfield County, an 8 patient net increase was reported for a 2-day increase of 9 net patients.
  • Statewide, deaths increased by 5, with one death in Fairfield County.

For more than two years, many communities in the area and across the state have experienced sustained activity of thefts from vehicles and stolen vehicles.  A successful Lock It or Lose It campaign by the Wilton Police Department in late 2018 resulted in increased vigilance by Wilton residents and a 55% reduction in reported thefts from vehicles during 2019 and a 59% reduction in reported vehicles stolen in 2019.   Unfortunately, this year some of that vigilance has been lost. This year there have been 5 reported stolen vehicles compared to 0 at the same time last year.  There has been 15 reported theft from vehicle incidents compared to 8 at the same time last year. For your safety and that of the community, please lock your vehicle. Unlocked vehicles are an invitation to thieves to keep coming back.

Dial-A-Ride will resume serves on Monday, July 13th with new Coronavirus protocols. Look for more details in tomorrow’s update.

Connecticut’s travel advisory for 19 states remains in effect. The State’s guidance is often changed or tweaked, so please read the guidance carefully on the day you are traveling to or from Connecticut.  Residents or visitors arriving in Connecticut from those states must quarantine for 14 days, unless they are an employee on work related travel while employed in a critical industry as defined.  Individuals, for whom a 14-day quarantine is not possible, can enter the State if they had a negative Coronavirus viral test in the 72 hours prior to travel. FAQs are available on the webpage.

Out of respect for each other, as Americans that care for each other, we need to be wearing masks in public when we cannot social distance.”  Dr. Deborah Birx, Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force.
