Wilton COVID-19 Update: New Case, Eversource Investigation, State Public Emergency Extension and Detailed Case Data

In her community update last night (August 31) Lynne Vanderslice reported the following:

CT DPH report as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday, August 30th included corrections to among others,  Wilton cases and county deaths.  The report reflected a one case decrease in Wilton cases, but did not provide details.  Over the weekend, Wilton’s Health Department received a report of a new case.  Based on information received by the Wilton Health Department, there have been three new cases since Thursday, August 27th.

The following are other highlights from the  CT DPH August 30th report versus the CT DPH August 28th report: 

  • Statewide: 384 new cases.  .84% of tests performed reported positive.
  • Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 8-net patient decrease. Fairfield County, no change
  • Deaths: Statewide, no deaths. Fairfield Country, 1 death.

The Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Agency (PURA) will hold hearings on October 21st, 22nd and 23rd as part of their investigation of Eversource’s preparation for and response to Tropical Storm Isaias.  As previously shared, the Town of Wilton has received Intervenor status and will take part in the hearings.  Residents can submit testimony. We are working with neighboring communities to request a similar investigation into Altice and Frontier’s preparation for and response related to cable and telephone services.  PURA isn’t authorized to conduct an investigation related to internet services.  

Tomorrow, Governor Lamont is expected to extend the State’s Public Emergency into February.  Currently, the emergency is set to expired on September 9th.   

Detailed Case Data:

The CT Data Center reported the following or Wilton as of 8:30 p.m. August 30th and versus the dates prior to the start of Phase 1 and Phase 2:

  • 248 cases, 41 additional since June 16th and 48 since May 19th.
  • 3,637 residents tested, 2,487 since June 16th and 2,887 since May 19th.
  • 4,980 tests performed, 3,528 since June 16th .
  • 42 deaths, 1 since June 16th and 5 since May 19th.

CT DPH reported the following for Fairfield County and Statewide as of 8:30 p.m. August 30th:

  • 18,903 cases, 2,522 additional since 6/16      52,879 cases, 7,450 additional since 6/16
  • 1,414 deaths, 62 additional since 6/16           4,465 deaths, 246 additional since 6/16
  • 14 hospitalized, 54 less than 6/16                   52 hospitalized, 134 less than 6/16
