STATE EFFORTS TO EXPAND TESTING

On today’s call with the Governor’s staff, they acknowledged the strain due to a surge in testing. In response, the State is working with state contracted partners to increase availability through new regional test sites.  They will not be opening a site in each municipality. Instead, they will open sites at large venues with the capacity to serve the regional population.

Many of the state partners are also seeking to expand hours.  To do so, new hires are required. College students on break are encouraged to consider short-term employment and seek out those openings.  Volunteers are also needed for the regional testing centers.  You can volunteer through the CT Medical Reserve Corps or CT Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.

A list of testing centers in abutting communities with website links is available on the Coronavirus page on the Town’s website.  Additional locations, including pop-up sites, are available on the State’s 211 site and the Community Health Center

CT DPH Commissioner reminded us that testing is only one component in reducing the spread.  Wearing masks and avoiding indoor gatherings are two critical components that everyone can practice.

SENIOR LUNCHES

Today, Social Services provided 155 pre-Thanksgiving lunches to Wilton seniors.  Senior Center Coordinator Stephanie Rowe was assisted by volunteers from Stay at Home in Wilton and the Wilton Woman’s Club.  Another lunch will be offered next month with the assistance of the Fire Department.  If you would like a lunch next month or know someone who would like one, please contact Stephanie.  Her contact information is available here

TOWN GREEN EVERGREEN REPLACEMENT

On Saturday Hoffman Landscaping is scheduled to replace the evergreen on the Town Green. Although we aren’t able to safely hold our annual in-person tree lighting ceremony and events, we are planning a special virtual tree lighting.  Look for details at the end of the month.

TRAVEL ADVISORY UPDATE

Reminder, the CT travel advisory was updated yesterday.  Vermont was added to the list of affected states, leaving only four states not on the list, our 3 regional travel partners, NY, NJ and RI and the state of Hawaii.  Today the Governor asked college students to be tested before returning home for the holidays.  Students were also asked to remain at college, should they test positive.
