Town of Wilton Final Update Regarding At-Home Test Kit Distribution

Last night (December 30) the Governor held a press conference and shared the State won’t receive the expected shipment of test kits, as the supplier backed out of the agreement.  He indicated his team is seeking alternative sources.  We very much appreciate the efforts of the Governor and his team, but, due to small supplies and high demand, we do not expect to receive kits for distribution any time soon.

The Governor also shared he continued to believe issuing a statewide mask mandate could result in pushback, making the mandate counterproductive.  He stated his conclusion was based on past experience.  We agree with his conclusion and also know a townwide mask mandate isn’t enforceable.

Masks are mandated in municipal buildings as part of an effort to ensure sufficient staffing to provide required town services. Municipal buildings and their offices aren’t spacious.  It is easier for me to keep 6-feet of distance from fellow shoppers at the Village Market, than it is for me to keep 6-feet of distance from someone inside my office and impossible for me to do so when in virtually all other offices.

Please continue to social distance and please wear a mask in public, if you are able.

Town offices are closed tomorrow and Monday.  The Transfer Station isn't regularly open on Fridays and is closed on Saturday and Monday.  All will reopen on Tuesday.

Thank you and Happy New Year.
