The Wilton Police Department, located at 240 Danbury Road, was built in 1974 for a police force of less than thirty officers, with no thought of women joining the force. Today, there are forty-five officers and four full-time civilian employees. Police say the infrastructure is obsolete and degrading, requiring constant maintenance and repairs.
According to the Department, a three person resident committee has been formed to work with Facilities Director, Chris Burney to study the Town Campus and to develop a plan for the expected expansion and renovation of the Wilton Police Headquarters.
The Town previously commissioned a needs assessment study which put the cost of a new headquarters at approximately $12,660,000. the Department says that this amount is a "placeholder" until a more refined cost can be determined. They request a Bond up to $1,267,000 or 10% of the placeholder amount so they can conduct and develop necessary engineering and design studies and plans to bring a proposal to the Annual Town Meet in May of 2018.
Wilton Police Department has posted this video on their Facebook Page to show the WPD Facilities of the existing structure.
