Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community, brought to you by Fairfield County Bank

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Ancona's Wines & Liquors!

Three questions with Mitch Ancona, owner of Ancona's Wines & Liquors.

Why did you start your business?

My Grandfather started the original Branchville store back in the 1920’s. My Mom and Dad owned it from the 50’s up until I purchased it from my Mom in the late 90’s. I opened the Wilton location about 10 years ago and the Ridgefield store this year. WHY? to lose even more sleep ;-)

Best selling product/service?

Our shops are very eclectic as far as products we sell. We have a tendency to get most excited about small producers that are real people from real places creating products out of passion (vs mass-produced commercial products) whether it be wine, beer or spirits.

How many people do you employ?

Currently, we have 16 full-time teammates. Each bringing distinct skills and energy to the mix.  Whether it be inventory logistics, graphics, and marketing or wine, beer or spirits expertise we have all the bases covered.

Ancona's Wines & Liquors has three locations:
