Now through Friday, Aug. 24 Reading is Out of this World! Summer Reading Program. Join Wilton Library this summer for our Reading is Out of This World! Summer Reading Program. Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection. By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer. The Reading is Out of This World! program stimulates kids' imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about space. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned through August 24. Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience. The summer reading program is funded by John and Susan Steitz, with STEAM programs made possible by the Amadeo Family. Now through Saturday, Aug. 25 Reading Takes You Everywhere! Teen Summer Reading Wilton Library's online summer reading program for teens and tweens, continues through August 25th.  This is for students entering grades 6-12. Registration takes place online through Wandoo Reader and then allows everyone to track their reading anywhere they go. All that's needed is a good book and internet connection. Age-appropriate reading of any fiction, non-fiction, biography and Manga, make students eligible for gift certificates in the weekly drawing plus a chance to win a $100 VISA card at the end of the summer awaits! Now through Tuesday, Aug. 28 74th Annual Wilton Artists’ Summer Show Exhibition Art exhibition celebrates more than 50 Wilton artists displaying diverse styles, media, and subjects in this two-month long annual Summer Show.  A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Thursday, Aug. 2 Jazz Idiom and Modern Musicals Concert, 7 – 8 p.m. Join us for a musical treat with two talented performers -- Will Comer on the piano and vocalist, Caitlin Witty.   Will is an accordionist and pianist studying jazz piano performance at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.  He has performed in a variety of settings such as a cocktail hour pianist, ballet accompanist, classical accompanist, improv comedy accompanist, pop-punk band synth player and street musician.   Caitlin Witty, a national YoungArts finalist, will be a senior at Webster University's Conservatory for Theatre Arts. Wednesday, Aug. 8 Wonderful Wednesdays: Animal Embassy's Alien Invaders, 4 – 5 p.m. Animal Embassy will be bringing several live Alien Invaders for kids to see and learn about. Their 'aliens' are animals who were once family pets, but somehow were released into the wild. Kids will learn about the challenges that these aliens face in foreign lands as well as the problems they create. Learn about creatures such as a Burmese python who came all the way from Asia to Florida. Monday, Aug. 27 Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence Exhibition/Reception: Karen Bright, 6 – 7:30 p.m. August brings MaryEllen Hendricks to the Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence program. MaryEllen is a photographer specializing in landscape photography, primarily using primitive and 19th century techniques including the use of large format cameras. Tuesday, Aug. 28 Harry Potter Camp Fundraiser, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to go back to school. Harry Potter is always happy to leave the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts. This year, you can go, too! At Wilton Library, we will be hosting a fundraiser commemorating 21 years of Harry Potter. This program is for children in grades 3-5. Children will be sorted into the four houses and attend a variety of magical classes and fun activities. They will search for magical artifacts guarded by fearsome creatures; learn about the Science of Divinations from Professor Trelawney, and much more. There will also be a visit with the Head Dragon Wrangler from House Slytherin!  Lunch donated by Wilton's own Pinocchio Pizza. Advance registration required in person; $50 per child. Take a free practice test for the SAT, ACT or PSAT! C2 Education of Wilton will administer the test -- you decide which one. Afterwards, you can schedule an appointment with C2.
