Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Untangled!

Three questions with Kevin Vallerie, owner of Untangled.

Why did you start your business?

I founded Untangled in 2010 when I recognized the need for a “Technology GC” in many homes and businesses.  I was working in NYC for a private equity firm at the time and supporting employees globally.  Everyone seemed to have the same problem in their homes – they all had an IT person, an AV person, an electrician, a security company, a builder/contractor, but there was little communication between the trades to make the home run cohesively.  Our original service was to act as the liaison between the trades, ensuring that the GC or contractor was speaking the same language as the technical trades, working with the client to ensure they were optimizing costs and helping them choose the proper solutions for everything from TV/Phone/Internet services to hardware and streaming subscriptions, security services, monitoring and ongoing support contracts.  The business evolved into a full-service offering of solutions including audio, video, security, surveillance, powered shades, landscape lighting and design, home automation and control and computer/network support services.  These services include small business, corporate and commercial solutions as well.

How many people do you employ? Any youth or seniors from the community?

10 (plus contractors). We bring in a WHS Senior each year for an internship. They sometimes have stayed on with us for the summer and one has been with us when available for a few years now.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

As a board member of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, I love to keep business local. We have worked alongside many local businesses on home projects, hosted meetings and events at places such as Marly’s and Cactus Rose, we all eat at the local delis and grocers such as Diamond Deli, CT Coffee, Village Market, Tusk & Cup, Pinnochio’s Pizza, Orem’s, Reiki, Hunan, Little Pub – just to name a few!  We use Ring’s End and Wilton Hardware for job and project supplies.  We found our office space through Hastings Real Estate.  We buy our service vehicles through Wilton Chevrolet and service our fleet at Wilton Auto & Tire. Our team goes to Ancona’s for their after-work beverage needs. We keep up with local news through Good Morning Wilton. We get our sweet tooth fix at the Painted Cookie.  If we haven’t been to a Wilton business yet, we’ll find a reason to get there!
