Wilton Library presents the Loft Artists Association Exhibition Feb. 1

The artists may have come from as far away as Japan, Colombia, and the mountains of Italy; they have painted in places such as Monet’s gardens and photographed images under the sea for their inspirations; and yet their talents all come together at Wilton Library as members of the “Loft Artists Association Exhibition” from Stamford, CT. The opening reception for the nineteen artists from the art association is Friday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library. The featured artists are Claudio Altesor, Stamford; Anna Badini, Stamford; Margot Bittenbender, Old Greenwich; Rita Ghandour, Stamford; Rosa Colón, Stamford; Maria C. Friscia, Riverside; Ellen Gordon, Stamford; Lisa Hillman, Darien; Catherine Horan, Old Greenwich; Yuko Ike, Darien; Joanie Landau, Fairfield; Paul Larson, Greenwich; , Barbara Mathis, Stamford; Lina Morielli, Stamford; Jeffery Nelson, Stamford; Maura Smotrich, Stamford; Rebecca Stern, Stamford; Julliette Teherani, Stamford; and Pierrette Wagner, Stamford. The reception is free and open to the public.

“We’re delighted to welcome back the Loft Artists Association from Stamford,” said Ed MacEwen, art chairman for Wilton Library. “We haven’t had them for years so I felt it was time to invite them back. They are all very accomplished in what they create and will be well received in Wilton.”

The artists’ works are diverse from their subject matter choices, to their media selections to their engaging styles.  The walls of the library’s gallery, reference and reading areas will be bursting with color, just what is needed during the drab days of winter.

From the Loft Artists Association website, “The Loft Artists Association (LAA) began in 1978 as the vision of 3 artists; sculptor James Jackson Burt, painter Sophia Gevas and folk art curator Dan Prince. These artists moved into the former Yale and Towne Lock Factory building to work and live. Soon, others followed, including internationally renowned sculptor, Reuben Nakian, and such was the beginning of what has become Stamford’s premier visual arts organization dedicated to creating mutually beneficial ties between the creative individual and the community.”

The current building for the association is at 575 Pacific Street, which houses fourteen studios and two exhibition galleries that also are used for workshops and Open Studios events. The association has been celebrating its 40 years as an institution and they bring that celebration to Wilton for more people to experience the talents of the member artists. The association’s website is https://loftartists.org.

Close to 65 pieces will be on display throughout the library. The majority will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. The exhibition runs through Friday, Feb. 22. The media sponsor for the exhibition is The Wilton Bulletin.
