Monday, Jan. 6 New Life for Old Videos, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Do you have a box of old home videos? Wish you could still watch some of those funny or touching family moments? If so, come learn how to convert them to DVDs. For 7th graders through adults and 6th grade students accompanied by adults who are willing to learn too. Mondays, Jan. 6 through March 30 Rockin' Rhythms, 11:15 – 11:45 a.m. Rockin' Rhythms is Ray’s way (of Jay and Ray) of continuing to develop and give children a unique and awesome experience with music during their preschool years. Saturday, Jan. 11 Tales to Tails, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.ROAR’s (Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue) Therapy Dog Program will be bringing a therapy dog to be read to by children. The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and actually look forward to reading. Tuesday, Jan. 21 The Treaties of Sèvres and Lausanne - Case Studies of Diplomatic Nonsense, 7 – 8:30 p.m. This is the final lecture in the series about World War I and its aftermath presented by Wilton Resident Jean-Pierre Lavielle. Ninety-nine years ago a treaty was signed in Sèvres, a Paris suburb, to reshape the Middle East from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. The plan collapsed, yet it casts a very long shadow since it explains the current explosive situation of the Middle East. See the library’s website for details. Sunday, Jan. 26 WLA/WHS Scholarly Series: Jazzed Up—The History of Jazz in America - Dr. Gil Harel at Wilton Library, 4 – 5:30 p.m. In the 13th year of the collaboration between Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society, the scholarly lecture series will focus on the theme of “Jazzed Up: The History of Jazz in America.” During this program, Dr. Gil Harel, PhD, Brandeis University, will discuss the ways in which jazz as a medium was intertwined with the civil rights movement and the unrelenting drive towards social justice. Gil Harel is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from the western classical repertoire to jazz. See the library’s website for details.
