Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Bone and Bark Inn!

Three questions with Maria Farinas, owner of Bone and Bark Inn.

Bone and Bark Inn was created with the Farinas Family’s own 9 rescues in mind. A place where you can feel good about leaving your pet while you are away for a day, week, or month.

Why did you start your business?

We started our business because we found it very difficult to find places to board our dogs that were homelike and not like a typical kennel like environment with limited time outside to run and play. We felt that most people’s dogs thrive in this type of homelike environment and we wanted to give people a fresh option. So far we have been very successful and I think people are drawn to the type of place we are.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business: I wish I could...

Since we foster many homeless dogs and so many find their forever homes here in Wilton we would wish that we could continue to help people learn more about the importance of adopting a dog and that most dogs are in shelters most often because they have been let down by humans and are NOT damaged goods.

Do you use any local businesses to support your business?

We use several local businesses to support Bone and Bark Inn. The first is Wilton Hardware where we buy tools and other supplies for the Inn.  The next is Pet Pantry that is always willing to help with anything our foster dogs may need as well as food and other dog supplies.
The last is our in house vet Janette Alvarez who lives in a Wilton and owns Animal Wellness Veterinary center and has many Wilton clients. We also purchase blankets, dog crates and other supplies from Minks to Sinks and The Turnover shop here in town.
