Wilton Library celebrates its 125th year with new logo and events

Wilton, CT – One hundred and twenty-five years ago some very forward-thinking people came together and decided that Wilton needed a library in its community. With 150 books in a private home, the Wilton Library Association was founded in May, 1895. That same Wilton Library Association today is in the heart of Wilton Center with more than 500,000 items in a beautiful modernist building, providing programs, services, and technology that could not have been imagined back then.

To celebrate the library’s past and to embrace the future, Wilton Library is unveiling its new celebratory logo marking the special occasion for its residents and supporters. The logo is a design informed by the existing logo, reflecting the clean lines of the building. There is a hued range of colors taking inspiration and color cues from the seasons and elements, which are organically infused into the library’s architecture as one sits and views the changing seasons from within. Blending with the W logo is the 125 typography honoring the celebration of the 125th year.

The refreshed logo design was created specifically for the anniversary year by Wilton Library trustee Sanford Stein and his design team.

Elaine Tai-Lauria said, “We are so thankful to Sandy for putting a fresh look on our Wilton Library logo to help us celebrate this important milestone. These are exciting times for the library and we’re particularly thrilled to have this vibrant new logo to help kick off all the festivities that are planned this year.”

Stein remarked, “When Elaine approached me to assist the library in creating a logo, I

was honored, since I know how important a year this is for everyone. We are proud of our work and that we were able to help the library in this way. And we thank the library for putting its confidence in us.”

First up, people will be able to see the new logo on display in the form of an ice sculpture during the Wilton Winter Carnival on Sunday, Jan. 26. During the year, the community will be able to enjoy an ice cream social, the development of a “top books loved by the community” project, and the library’s March benefit celebrating its 125th year, to name just a few. The first program is on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, January 26 during the Wilton Winter Carnival, and again on Feb. 22 during regular library hours, when children can write their stories on “Why I Love Wilton Library.” Their musings and creative drawings will be permanently bound into a volume that will become part of the collection.

Wilton Library is a nonprofit association and the cultural and intellectual heart of the community in the center of Wilton. The library’s mission is to inform, connect, enrich and inspire the community, which it strives to do every day through conversations, thought-provoking programs, up-to-date technology and customer-centric services.
