Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Sips Sites & Bites!

Three questions with Gondy Somma, and JoAnn LoGiurato, founders of Sips Sites & Bites.

Why did you start your business?

At the moment, our private, small group food, wine, and culture tours focus on the truly authentic island of Sicily. We started here because we are both extremely passionate about this Italian island that has been influenced by so many cultures. The melting pot of cultures is what makes Sicily fascinating and so different from mainland Italy. As owners, with experience in travel, food, and wine, we also wanted to pay homage to our Sicilian roots.

It’s no wonder The New York Times placed Sicily among the top 10 destinations to visit in 2020, and Forbes magazine ranked Sicily, #2 of the best destinations to visit in 2020.

The famous author, Goethe, said, “to have seen Italy without visiting Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything!” We couldn’t agree more, and we hope our clients fall in love with Sicily as we have.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. "I wish I could…"

“We wish we could..." share Sicily with everyone interested in food, wine, and culture. There is no other place on earth, quite like Sicily. An island is a unique place full of art, archaeology, history, folklore, and breathtaking scenery. For great food and wines, Sicily is almost a nation unto itself. Sicily is Europe, Asia, and Africa all wrapped up on one island because the island reflects the crossroads of the many civilizations who passed through these fertile lands, including the Ancient Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Spanish, Normans, and North Africans. What we love best is the authenticity that the island still offers to travelers. It is not overwrought with tourists as so many other parts of Italy are.

What is your best selling product/service?

Utilizing our in-depth knowledge of Sicilian culture, we design our immersive, all-inclusive food, wine, and culture tours with a keen eye for what the discerning traveler is expecting. Twice yearly (April and October), we offer our guests an unforgettable and authentic Sicilian cultural experience. They have to pack their bags, join us and we’ll do the rest!
