Connecticut is ending state-wide school mask mandate

Governor Ned Lamont announced tonight that the State of Connecticut is ending the state school mandate effective February 28, 2022. This means that beginning on 2/28/2022, school and child care mandates will be decided by the school districts, not the state. Please read Governor Lamont's message below.

We’ve made considerable progress against Covid. Infection rates have dramatically dropped and folks across CT have many tools on hand to keep themselves safe, from self-testing to vaccines and boosters. That’s why, as of February 28th, school and childcare mask mandates will be decided by school districts, not the state.

We did not make this decision lightly. Our commissioners at Connecticut State Department of Education and Connecticut Department of Public Health discussed all scenarios and the situation at hand with me at length. We arrived at the decision together. I also consulted with other governors in our region who have or will be making similar moves soon.

This is an important step in moving Connecticut one step closer to our new normal of living with the virus.
