Wilton Police Receive State Accreditation Award

On March 7, 2019 the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C) approved the Wilton Police Department’s achievement of Connecticut POST-C Tier-1 Accreditation status. Accreditation is a process through which law enforcement agencies demonstrate excellence in management and service delivery by complying with State Accreditation Standards. The State Accreditation program is designed to assist Connecticut law enforcement agencies to operate efficiently and uniformly to reduce exposure to civil liability. POST-C Tier-1 Accreditation status focuses predominantly on Liability Certification and consists of compliance with 127 standards. Specifically, the Standards allow agencies to meet the following goals:

• Strengthen crime prevention and control capabilities;
• Formalize essential management procedures;
• Establish fair and non-discriminatory personnel practices;
• Improve service delivery;
• Solidify interagency cooperation and coordination; and
• Boost citizen and staff confidence in the agency.

The Wilton Police Department becomes the 37th police agency in the State of Connecticut to hold an active Accreditation status. The Department would like to thank its entire staff for their contributions in the achievement of Connecticut POST-C Tier-1 Accreditation status. Specifically, the Department would like to recognize Sergeant Steven Rangel who spearheaded the accreditation process as the Department’s Accreditation Manager. Sergeant Rangel worked tirelessly and exhibited great professionalism in guiding the Department to the achievement.
