Wilton Police Arrest Suspect in Financial Scam

On Friday, May 3, 2019, at 1230 the Wilton Police Department received a call from the Wilton Post Office
about a possible shipment of a large amount of money, to a vacant house in Wilton, which was linked to a
Romance Scam in Mississippi.

The scam involves the suspect meeting the victim on a dating website. After gaining the victim's trust
through a fake relationship, they are able to obtain personal information including banking information on
the victim. They are then able to get the victim to send then large amounts of money or steal the money
from the victims accounts.  

The Wilton Police Department was able to set up surveillance of the vacant residence and apprehended
Olutade Adeyemi Gboyega when he picked up the package from the residence.

 The package that he thought he was picking up contained over 23,000 dollars in cash. Olutade is from Nigeria here in the US on a work visa and claimed to be picking the package up for his brother who lives in Nigeria. 

Olutade was held on $50,000 Bond.
