Wilton Police Stop Distracted Driver, Make Drug Bust

On Thursday, September 5, 2019 at approximately 11:15 am officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Danbury Road (Route 7) and Sharp Hill Road for a violation of distracted driving statutes. The operator of the vehicle, Jesse Daniel POMPONIO age 30 of Watertown, MA, was observed by officers texting while driving.

Upon making contact with POMPONIO the officer detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 5 1/2 pounds of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, LSD, and several pills. In addition, $13,770 of U.S. currency was seized from the vehicle.

POMPONIO was charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance or Greater than 1/2 ounce of Marijuana
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell
  • Possession of a Narcotic Substance with Intent to Sell
  • Possession of a Hallucinogenic Substance with Intent to Sell
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

POMPONIO is currently being held on a $100,000 bond and will be arraigned in Norwalk Superior Court on September 6, 2019 at 10 am if bond is not posted.
