Crosses Make Bold Statement

It is a bold statement, and just in time to get a very wide audience as many are on the roads traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday.

23 white crosses adorn the lawn of Munson Lovetere Funeral Home  on Main Street.

They were put there in the evening on Monday night by members of a group who want you to know the dangers of substance abuse.

And each cross represents someone from Woodbury or Bethlehem who has died in the past 10 years because of it. No names, just who they were --teammate, friend, mother, brother - along with their age.

Members of the local group, Advocates for Substance Abuse Prevention -- ASAP -- placed the crosses on the lawn of the funeral home to make the point.

Drugs and alcohol are deadly.

If you or someone you know needs help, please call the Woodbury-Bethlehem Parent Connection, a hope and support group for those who have family members struggling with addiction issues. Lesley Gomez facilitates the group that meets Monday evenings at North Congregational Church. Call 203-266-0487

If you would like to get involved in ASAP, the group meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Woodbury Police Department.

If you have lost a loved one and need help with the grieving process, contact Lissa Stone at Munson Lovetere at 263-2146
