Friends of Yorktown Parks and Rec seeking volunteers

Friends of Yorktown Parks and Recreation have announced they are seeking community volunteers and members to supplement and compliment its board of directors and committees.

Established in 2021, the Friends of Yorktown Parks and Recreation Inc., is a not for profit charitable and educational organization, with a mission to support, enhance, educate and promote  programs and services offered to all residents of the Town of Yorktown by the Yorktown Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Friends work in unison with the Town of Yorktown Department of Parks and Recreation and Yorktown Parks and Recreation Commission to encourage use and appreciation of the extensive parks and open space, by residents, provide a forum for ensuring community input, increasing fiscal and human resources for parks and recreation projects, and developing environmentally sound events and programs that bring community members into the park system to learn, preserve, recreate, and make friends.

The organization in its brief existence has successfully created, planned and executed many activities to enhance the Town of Yorktown Parks and Recreation activities including, Hole in One Contests (Downing Field 2021-22), Polar Bear Plunge (Sparkle Lake 2022), Pickleball Tournament (Granite Knowles 2022) , Ryan West Memorial Scholarship Fund (2022) with many more activities planned for 2023.

Numerous volunteer opportunities (committee member, committee chair, board member, etc.) exist in many areas of the operation. People with the following skills are needed, but any help is appreciated and experience is not required, communications, social media, project management, marketing and finance.
