Last Thursday, February 8th The BHS Music department held a “Heros and Villians” benefit concert to raise funds for Puerto Ricans that were affected by the Hurricane Maria last September.
Hurricane Maria, a category four storm, devastated the entire island of Puerto Rico, leaving thousands without power and shelter for weeks and even months. Costing more in damages than Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma combined.
BHS students from the music department and from clubs in the school put together a concert to send relief to Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico. Heartfelt vocal performances by BHS theatre classes included “Iridescent” by Linkin Park and sung by junior Angela Hupp and “God Help the Outcasts” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, sung by juniors Skylar Connelly and Layla Pagan. The theatre class also performed classic Broadway that showed there more villainous side such as the “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago. BHS Symphonic and Concert bands lead by Andrea Perdicho, also the concert coordinator, performed pieces sticking to the night's theme heroes and villains by performing pieces from musicals “Jekyll and hyde” and “Wicked”. The BHS wind ensemble lead by George Viglucci preformed a fun and upbeat “Lion King” medley that had audiences humming the tune all the way out the door. The night of fun ended with all the BHS bands coming out to play a final tune, “Summon the Heroes”, to honor the audience for coming out and supporting the cause. In total, all the fundraising by individual clubs, numerous bake sales, donations and ticket sales, BHS students raised more than 4,000 for the cause.
