Help Save Lives From Cancer and Be Part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Yorktown’s Paint the Town Purple

Honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change

American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life of Yorktown invites the community to rally together as part of our re-imagined event throughout Yorktown on Friday, May 14, 2021 starting at 8 am to help save lives from cancer. Due to the pandemic, Relay For Life events might look different but the passion and commitment to fight cancer is unchanged.

“Whether we come together in person or virtually for this event, let’s rally together in the fight
against cancer and make a difference”, said Jim Poulin. “We envision a future where we no longer
live with the threat of cancer. Unfortunately, that future is at risk and there is a mission urgency since COVID-19 forced the postponement of fundraising activities this past year. We want you to help us give hope the advantage for the future to be cancer free.”
Relay For Life of Yorktown’s 2021 Paint the Town Purple event will bring our community together to raise awareness and funds to continue the fight against cancer. We will have our purple line on
Commerce Street thanks to the Town of Yorktown to show our support for all those affected by
cancer. On the morning of May 14 th we will start bright and early at 7:30 am at Commerce Street for a all-day boot drive. This year we have added two more boot drive locations at the Shrub Oak Library and the JV Mall! These will start at 8 am.

Since we want to celebrate all day with you, we invite our Relay teams, local businesses and the
entire community to a Drive-Thru Relay Experience and Luminaria Ceremony from 7-9 PM at the JV Mall. You’ll get to experience all your favorite parts of Relay right from your car!
For more than 35 years participants and volunteers across the world have come together to honor
and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change. Funds raised help the American
Cancer Society conduct breakthrough research, provide 24/7 support for cancer patients and access to lifesaving screenings.

“Fundraising through Relay For Life is more important than ever and we can’t allow progress to be
put on hold because of the pandemic. Cancer won’t stop, and neither can we,” said Kate Corsitto,
American Cancer Society Development Manager. There are many ways to get involved.

 Be part of the Relay For Life of Yorktown- Sign-up to join an existing team or start a new
team by visiting relayforlife.org/yorktownny

 Donate - If you can’t participate in this year’s Relay event, you can still help save lives by
making a donation. Every dollar fuels the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.

 Purchase Luminaria Bags- Each light represents a life—a life taken by cancer, a survivor
of cancer, or a support for a person still fighting the disease. These can be purchased
on our event website.

The event is supported by many local businesses and organizations including the Town of Yorktown, the Jefferson Valley Mall and Yorktown HamletHub.

Relay For Life continues to be more than just an event - it’s a movement, a community of like-
minded survivors, caregivers, volunteers and participants who believe that the future can be free
from cancer.
