With generous support provided by the Bedford Garden Club, Hilltop Hanover Farm is launching a volunteer-run native plant nursery. Get involved and help us grow native plants that support our native habitats and sustainable landscapes. (And our gardens, too.) All are welcome to participate; training will be provided.

Program Description
Gardens are ecosystems full of life; the plants we choose matter to the diversity of life within our gardens and to the surrounding landscape. This talk will cover lessons learned from NYBG’s 120 years of garden management and stewardship of the 50-acre Thain Family Forest as case study. The concepts of ecology will be introduced and translated into practical steps you can use in your garden focusing on native plant communities, plant-animal interactions, and resources developed for the New York Region.
About the Presenter
Jessica A. Schuler, Director of the Thain Family Forest at The New York Botanical Garden, is responsible for the management of the 50 acre, old growth urban Forest including ecological restoration and the development of education and research programs. She teaches about urban forest restoration, invasive species, and native plants. Jessica earned a BS in plant science with distinction in research from Cornell University, is an ISA-certified arborist and Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner with the Society for Ecological Restoration. Jessica is an advocate for native plant conservation and ecological restoration.
