Hudson Valley Hockey Company Opens in JV Mall with Colton Orr

Frank Vazquez has been playing hockey in the NY area since he was 5 years old.  Now 28, he has done it all in the world of hockey. From working in a shop selling equipment and sharpening skates to being a player, coach, referee and a fan. He has seen hockey from all angles. Several years ago he opened  Hudson Valley Hockey Company. He sold new and used equipment and sharpened skates. Now he has a new store in the Jefferson Valley Mall and held the official Grand Opening this past Saturday June 15th. Dozens came out for the event to browse, buy and take a few shots at a goal he had set up in the walkway in front of his store. Participants scored by hitting targets in the goal and for each target hit they earned one chance into a raffle.

The store is located on the second floor just next to the food court and has everything the budding player could want. From Jerseys in sizes for the youngest player or fan to goalie pads for the budding collegiate players to several styles of sticks. A player can even get their skates sharpened using the store new technique called Flat Bottomed V Technology from Blackstone Sports. Stop by the shop, Mr. Vazzquez is more then happy o talk to you about this new technology which he calls “the greatest method of sharpening” skates.

Raffle and openings aside the real attraction for the day was ex-Ranger Colton Orr who dropped in to meet and greet die hard hockey fans and casual shoppers as well. Orr played for 3 NHL teams over a career that spanned from 2003 to 2016. He was a NY Ranger for 4 seasons from 2005 through 2009. His NHL totals were 477 games with 12 goals, 12 assists and 1186 penalty minutes. Orr was known as an enforcer for his physical style of play and for regularly fighting.

Dozens of fans lined up to chat and get autographs and he was very accommodating to all but especially to one little boy. Nephrili Dooley brought her son and daughter early to the opening so as not to miss the former Ranger. Two years ago she and her husband, both huge Rangers fans, were trying to think of a good tough “Hockey” name for their soon to be born baby boy. They came up with Colton after remembering his physical style of play with the Rangers and thought it was the perfect "hockey" name . Now little Colton Dooley , along with his sister, Annelise, and his Mom, met his namesake in person. He was at first a bit shy and laid back but Mr. Orr brought out a few smiles and in a few minutes they were fist bumping like old teammates. Mr. Orr signed several items for the little guy and the whole family left with smiles.

Hudson Valley Hockey Company is open 11am until 7pm Tuesday through Thursday. 11am - 6 pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am until 4pm on Sundays. They are closed on Mondays for the summer.
