Yorktown Chamber The President’s Column August 2019

It’s hard to believe that summer is half over!

This year on July 18th, the Chamber awarded six $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors at our Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner generously sponsored by the Counseling Center at Yorktown at Vittoria’Z on the Lake in Jefferson Valley. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to The Counseling Center and my special thanks to the Awardees for applying and going through the process. A huge thank you goes our Scholarship Committee co-chairs, April Lasher, Lily Villani and Patricia Hallinan for their tireless work. We also thank all our members who contributed throughout the year to this wonderful cause.

The Car Show, despite the heat wave went extremely well with over 100 Hot Rods and Classics on display and a fantastic turnout of vendors and participants alike. I would also like to thank The Curry Auto Group for all of their dedication and support to the Chamber. Lastly a special shout out to both Patricia Cerbone and Eric DiBartolo for their organizing the event.

Sales are gearing up for the 11th Annual Fall Festival & Street Fair… our committee is busy planning new attractions for this year’s Festival. Look for the ”new colorful” Festival flags that will be displayed around town and call the Chamber office to purchase one. As soon as you place your order your flag will go up. We expect over 250 vendors so please call the office at 914-245-4599 to reserve your space. With over 15,000 attending, every Yorktown business should be participating. Can you really afford not to be there?

Plans are underway for Chamber Business Socials to take place in September, October and November, capping the year off with our annual holiday get together.

See page 10 for information how to sign up for a spot on the LED sign in the middle of Yorktown. At $100 per month (Chamber members: $80 per month) It’s a great deal!

Election Day is coming up and I urge all business owners to vote. Try to attend the Chamber sponsored political debates at the Yorktown Stage on October 21 and 23. The debates will be centered around business and economic issue that affect business and commerce. Your vote will play a key role in how our town works in the next several years.

I hope you are enjoying your summer– don’t forget to attend some of the Lion’s Club free concerts on Sunday evenings at the DeVito Field.

For those of you who read this newsletter every month I want to thank you on behalf of the Chamber for taking the time to learn how much we are involved in helping you promote your business. We ask you to recruit members and support our sponsorships. Our goal is to grow this Chamber with varied and exciting members.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and be safe.
