Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,Ref-Mahopac) is pleased to announce the success of his 2019 Summer Reading Challenge as he distributed over thirty certificates to children from both Westchester and Putnam counties on Monday, September 30 at the Brewster Library. The program encourages children to read for at least 15 minutes every day for forty days during the summer to continue to develop their literacy skills during their school break. The New York State Education Department’s Division of Library Development provided a suggested reading list at www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/summer/explore.htm
“It was exciting to congratulate so many young readers in our community,” said Byrne. “This is a fantastic program which helps us inspire the younger generation to get excited about reading and continuing their literacy development. I look forward to handing out even more certificates next year.”
