Local Merchants Offered Free Social Media Support

During this time of physical distance and sequester, many have come to discover that we have never needed each other more.  All across the world, communities are closer than ever, thanks to social media and the multiple ways to communicate electronically.  Small businesses are dependent upon local residents for financial support to stay afloat. Everyday folks are the new heroes going to work without fail, despite the exposure to possible infection. Our bank, grocery and gas station cashiers, along with deli, restaurant and pharmacy staff are doing their best to remain virus free, while ensuring the general population is supplied with the necessities and comforts of life.

Never has it become so obvious how small the world really is, or how the influence one’s personal behavior will impact an entire community!

In the world of social media there are supportive neighborhood groups that provide connection and share local information. Popular questions such as, “where can I find” or “can anyone spare” are being asked and answered in a supportive manner.  One such collection of groups is the hyper-local Facebook Eat, Drink & Party groups that are in the process of rebranding to Eat, Drink & Support. The revised moniker more accurately reflects the group’s mission, delivering information about small businesses and news that makes your lives more enjoyable.

The two community-minded individuals, who started these groups in 2016, wish to remain unnamed, and administer their Group’s under the WestchesterButterfly brand. The duo are well known to their followers as a pair of tireless influencers working on behalf of the local small business owners, with a focus on offering a little bit of fun despite the “Party” being removed from their moniker.  The numerous ED&S groups are growing in membership, as the need becomes obvious - - we must all unite to support neighborhood businesses and keep our communities from becoming a ghost town after the onslaught of the CV-19 virus comes through. The public group, Yorktown, Eat, Drink & Support has tripled its membership to over 3.4K in just two weeks. The sudden growth is attributed to the public’s need for local news; support and the bi-weekly (and pop up) FREE give away contests!

Everyone is welcome to join the group and participate in the fun, donate prizes or post to place their business in front of thousands of local prospects.  The group administrators employ proven social techniques such as tagging, storytelling, and social proof via engagement to raise awareness of salons, restaurants, health clubs, suppliers of services and retailers.  At one point the pair considered suspending all fun and games. However, a quick poll of the group members indicated that this was one small area that is bringing joy while offering a vital community service.

The giveaway game is FREE and open to all.  Prizes are won via a live wheel spin on Monday night at 8 pm using a random, number generator. (Additional pop up contests are announced frequently.) Nothing is overly technical and contest “rules” are simple. All contests are hosted on Yorktown ED&S and shared in the community groups where the donating business is located; Brewster, Mahopac, Mt. Kisco, Peekskill or Somers, to name just a few.

Businesses donating gift certificates or prizes receive FREE media exposure and promotion with their name, logo, address & offer on the group’s page cover, along with hundreds of tags and shares providing them with social proof and hundreds of eyes on their business via a positive, public relations approach.

For more information on the give-away, or to donate a prize, visit Yorktown, Eat, Drink & Support to send a message to admins or send them an e-mail to westchesterbutterfly@gmail.com.
