Julia M. DalCeredo of Yorktown Heights Honored by University of Scranton

Julia M. DalCeredo of Yorktown Heights and a graduate of Somers High School, was among the 58 members of The University of Scranton's undergraduate class of 2020 honored for academic excellence, service or both. The awards were presented at a virtual Class Night on May 29.

Students with the highest GPA in each of the University's three undergraduate colleges were presented Frank J. O'Hara Awards for General Academic Excellence, a memorial to the late administrator who served the University for 53 years.

DalCeredo, recipient of the Professor Bernard J. McGurl Award for Excellence in Communication, earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and electronic media with a double minor in philosophy and theology/religious studies. She is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Alpha and Lamba Pi Eta honor societies. She was the editor and a writer for The Aquinas, the University's student newspaper, and a cameraperson for Royal Studios, a radio show host and a resident assistant. She was a member of the Praise and Worship Club and was a tutor for philosophy, theology, communication and chemistry for the University's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. She served as head of the Faith Pillar for the Faith Pillar Learning Community "Cura Personalis" on campus, where she helped plan meetings to discuss faith related issues and organize Adoration and prayer. In December 2019, DalCeredo began a remote internship with Pflaum Publishing Group, Inc., in addition to a remote freelance editing position at Sadlier, which she began in February 2020. Both positions are for Catholic Publishing Companies, a division of Bayard, Inc. She is a graduate of Somers High School, Somers, New York.
