Remember to keep fire hydrants clear of snow.

The Northeast is expected to be hit with a major snowstorm tomorrow afternoon and the potential of over a foot of snow is expected in the region. The Town of Yorktown would like to remind citizens that if you have a fire hydrant on or in front of your property you have the obligation to clear snow from around it. Thank you.

According to Town Code §216-7: It shall be the duty of the owner and occupant, jointly, of every parcel of real estate adjoining a fire hydrant to keep a two-foot-wide path around the fire hydrant free from snow and ice. Snow and ice shall be removed within 48 hours of a snowstorm. It shall be the duty of the owner and occupant, jointly, to notify the water district if the fire hydrant cannot be cleared within 48 hours of a snowstorm.
