Danbury Police Sergeant David Cooney, 45, Passes Away After Courageous Battle with Cancer

The Danbury Police Department is mourning the loss of Danbury Police Sergeant David Cooney, who passed away last night, November 28, at the age of 45 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dave was a 20-year veteran of the Danbury Police Department who was loved and highly respected by those who knew him. His most recent assignment was supervisor of the Crime Scene Unit, administrator for the department’s records management system, and liaison to several external agencies. He was also past President of the police union.

Dave had been a member of the Danbury Police family since birth. His father, Captain Dennis Cooney, served for 21 years before succumbing to a fatal heart attack while on duty in 1994.

Dave will always be remembered for his dedicated service to the department and the city, and for his great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed. Please keep his family, friends, the Danbury Police Department, and the community in your thoughts and prayers.
