Inmate dies at Westchester County Jail, Second inmate charged with Manslaughter

An inmate at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla was arrested on a manslaughter charge Tuesday in connection with a deadly assault on a fellow prisoner.

Westchester County Police charged William Johnson, 20, of Rollins Street, Yonkers, with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, a felony. He is accused of punching another prisoner in the head, causing that man to suffer fatal injuries when he fell to the floor and struck his head.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 30.  Johnson and the victim, Bryce Neville, 18, of Mount Vernon, had argued earlier in the day. Johnson is accused of punching Bryce from behind as the men walked through a common area at the jail.

Bryce was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla in critical condition following the attack. He died of his injuries on Feb. 4.

Johnson’s arraignment is anticipated to occur on Thursday in Mount Pleasant Town Court.

The arrest followed an investigation by detectives from the County Police General Investigations Unit and investigators from Department of Correction Special Investigations Unit.
