Yorktown Community Solar Update

The community solar farm that the Town has enrolled in through Sustainable Westchester is going live and generating clean energy – and savings for the Town!

Many Yorktown residents have enrolled in this and other solar farms through Sustainable Westchester and there is still the opportunity to benefit from the same savings as the Town if you haven’t yet signed up. You can learn more and sign up here.

Over 270 Yorktown residents have enrolled in community solar through Sustainable Westchester. Thanks to our partnership with the nonprofit organization, these enrollments have resulted in $12,500 in contributions to fund our local sustainability priorities while supporting more renewable energy on the electric grid and providing 10% savings to those who signed up.

We are happy to support this win for the environment, for the Town and for our residents!

For those who are unfamiliar, community solar enables people to subscribe to a large solar farm located in their utility area.  Energy produced by the solar farm is sent to the electric grid and subscribers receive a credit on their electricity bill representing their share of the value of that energy. Subscribers pay the owner of the solar farm a discounted amount for that solar credit through auto debit from a bank account they designate – resulting in savings on their electricity bill of up to 10%. In Sustainable Westchester’s program, there is no cost to join or to cancel.

Signing up is easy, and requires providing your utility account information and setting up autopay to make the discounted payments for your solar credits.

If you have questions, you can reach out to Sustainable Westchester at communitysolar@sustainablewestchester.org or call 914-242-4725 ext. 112.
