Senator Pete Harckham, 40th Senate District, is pleased to announce that he obtained $15,000 in NYS Senate Bullet Aid funding for the Yorktown Community Nursery School to make walkways and entrances ADA compliant. The nonprofit, nonsectarian pre-school, which opened its doors nearly 70 years ago, is owned, maintained and run by the parents of the children enrolled in the school. Its cooperative philosophy supports families and allows parents to play an integral role in their child's early education.
“I’m happy that we could provide funding for the Yorktown Community Nursery School that will be used to make it more accessible for children and adults with differing abilities. This community-run gem has been providing high-quality programs for pre-schoolers since 1948 and, has been demonstrating to their very involved parent body how to effectively support the learning process." explained Senator Harckham, "They believe, as I do, that we are stronger when everyone has an equal opportunity to participate.”
