Maloney Announces $375,000 in Grants to Fight Substance Abuse in the Hudson Valley

Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced the Department of Health and Human Services is awarding the Council on Addiction Prevention and Education of Dutchess County, the Prevention Council of Putnam, and the Tri-County Community Partnership in Orange County $125,000 grants through the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. The grant funds will be used to support programs fighting substance abuse impacting teens and young people in the Hudson Valley.

“We need strong partnerships on the local, state, and federal levels as we work to combat the drug epidemic. The Hudson Valley’s county-wide substance use prevention and mental health centers do important, life-saving work every day, and I’m proud to have fought for these grants so they can continue repairing and healing communities in Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties impacted by this epidemic,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

“CAPE is pleased to have secured the funding for Northern Dutchess and stands ready to assist them as they develop robust strategies to improve the health and wellness of their youth and families. CAPE remains grateful for the assistance of our policymakers in their recognition of the critical nature of prevention within the behavioral health arena. The presence of prevention is intentionally proactive and communities are healthier when resources are available to support those initiatives,” said Elaine Trumpetto, Executive Director of the Council on Addiction Prevention & Education (CAPE) of Dutchess County.

“Our goal is to make Carmel a safe and drug-free place for our youth. Prevention is a powerful tool to counteract drug use in our community, and we will use this funding to help youth in Carmel make healthy choices about substance use,” said Kristin McConnell, Executive Director of the Prevention Council of Putnam.

“We are extremely excited that we can continue our work through this grant, which will help accelerate our efforts to decreasing youth substance use, and ultimately help our youth grow into healthy adults,” Annette Kahrs, President, Tri-County Community Partnership, Inc., Hope Not Handcuffs-Hudson Valley, Program Director.
